Ostra Cosa was an amazing stop during my stay in San Juan. It was the perfect place to relax and get out of the sun while enjoying great atmosphere, food and drink. The staff was so friendly and attentive to our table. My group of 4 ended up ordering a bunch of delicious tapa style plates(although entrees were on the menu as well) and after we were done eating had a bunch of beer at a great price may I add. We ended up hanging at this spot for about 3 hours while waiting to check into our hotel nearby. The staff did not mind that we were there at all and are all overall great people. This is a great business to support especially after the hurricane and your business is supporting the nicest people you could meet!!
I had my favorite meal while in PR at Ostra Cosa. I got the Papa Real Esparracha or the Royal Smashed Potato. It was smashed red potatoes topped with lightly sautéed fresh vegetables and cheese, which was then broiled so the cheese got melty in places and crispy in others. It was served with drizzles of two house sauces - one similar to a bechamel and the other a common sauce in PR that seems like a combo of ketchup and mayo. Then finished with your choice of meat. My server, Roberto, recommended the churrasco and the camarones and I would stick with that. He was also super friendly, accommodating, and attentive even when the entire restaurant filled unexpectedly. When it slowed down, Roberto generously answered my questions about where to find salsa dancing and yoga classes in the area and on a subsequent night (because I went back again for the Papa Real) gave me advice about how to find good mofongo and other great food in the area as well as how to best travel to nearby towns. Great food, exceptional service. Go there.
We loved it the food was so good. One the best restaurant we ate at. I would recommend to try this place when visiting Puerto Rico. Fried pork chop was my favorite. Got to try it.
A little background: I grew up in San Diego. My mom had a friend who owned a Mooney, and they would fly down to Punta Final, Baja California, and bring back Pacific spiny lobsters (and abalone). Later, in Lancaster, CA, there was a Mexican restaurant that served Pacific spiny lobsters Puerto Vallarta style. Since then, I have not had spiny lobsters. We live on the West Coast, but everyone serves Maine lobsters! What's up with that?
Monday, my wife and I were walking from Castillo San Felipe del Morro, looking for a taxi to get back to Condado, when we walked by Ostra Cosa. We could not resist the Caribbean spiny lobsters! We shared one, broiled, that was a little over 2 kilos. After three decades, I finally ate spiny lobster again! Delicious, and much better than Maine lobsters.
Thursday we made Ostra Cosa our destination for dinner. My wife picked out a 3.6 kilo lobster, and someone joked that I needed to pick one out for myself. My wife said she was going to eat one by herself. Hahaha... Oh, wait. She's serious! The owner, Alberto, was sitting next to the tank, and was very friendly and helped us make our choice. He recommended the lobster stuffed with white fish, shrimps, scallops, squid rings, and topped with oysters on the half-shell. We decided to split the 3.6 kg lobster, and have smashed potatoes and fried sweet plantains with it. Alberto treated us to a taste of the best ceviche I've ever had. I don't remember the name of our drinks, but they were ones Ostra Cosa is known for.
Ostra Cosa makes fantastic spiny lobsters. The staff are very friendly, and very helpful. Alberto is a great host. I enjoyed chatting with him. The atmosphere is nice, and I think our enjoyment of the lobsters drew some people in. *L* (OK, it may have been the lobster tank on display.) On Thursday, we were entertained my Mitzy the cat, who is also very friendly.
We are absolutely returning to Ostra Cosa the next time we visit Puero Rico. Thank you, Alberto!
Had a group of 26 people at Ostra Cosa during the weekend. Waiters are great. Food is Outstanding. The restaurant location right next to the Plaza makes the ambiance very special. I recommend this place to everybody. The staff is going to make you feel good... and the food is going to flip you over. It is an all around experience.
We ate there 2x..Enrique was very nice. Try the green lipped mussels. The sole was fabulous. Mojito was the best I've ever had. Rice and beans were tasty but a little dry. And the civiche was lacking ..portion was huge, but only lime and fish...I like onion, hot sauce, etc.
We had the grilled prawns and carne crispy cheese crepe. It was phenomenal!! Serviced as outstanding. The bartender was very informative about the menu.
Had the best experience here! Me and my family will defiantly be back!! The owner is so genuine and such a great person!
Amazing place. Food was on point and the personalize service was superb. Can't wait to go back
Alberto the owner made an unforgettable evening for my group. First he made us an Espinosa, his specialty home made drink, mussels appetiive and the main course lobster with churrasco. It was the best lobster i have ever eating. Thank you Alberto. Unforgettable.
Food is amazing. Compliments to the chef. Drinks are also on point . Waiters are nice and welcoming.
Andres was the best ! Helpful , fun . My husband loved the frozen sangria and the sole filet was delicious. At the top of the gorgeous San sabastion avenue, we love soaking in the outdoor lunch.
Might be the best shrimp I've ever tasted. And I lived in louisiana 14 years. Delicious salad too.
Do not miss this warm friendly fantastic place!!
